COVID-19 Update: May 29, 2020

COVID-19 May 29 Update

Here is an updated snapshot of the ministry...

Winslow, Arizona:

  • Recently a shipment of fresh fruit and vegetables arrived in Winslow and distribution began right away, including partnering with an aviation mission to fly food into the reservation.
  • Red Sands Christian School ended their school year last week, and as of now the plan is to open next school year in the building on August 3.
  • The Navajo Nation is still having a rough time. Their hasn't been very much aid to help, but the team in Winslow is working to change that. (Check out this update.)
  • The Well church is regathering, but are still doing online streaming for those who want to stay home.
  • How you can help: donate to the benevolent fund so our local leaders can quickly respond to urgent needs in their community!

Canada:

  • Tableside Church and Northern Hills Church are both still meeting online.
  • Small groups are staying connected through online gatherings.
  • In May the Canadian team relaunched their meal packing ministry by hosting household meal packs at multiple churches around Calgary. Their goal was to raise $21,500 to pack enough meals to finish off a container and then send over 165,000 meals to the Heart for Home campus in Port Salut. In these past three weeks, they’ve engaged 190 participants, packed over 55,000 meals and have raised a good portion of the goal! They are aiming for one more event later in June where they will be finishing off the meals for this container and also packing meals for the Mustard Seed, a local faith based organization working with some of the most vulnerable people in Calgary.

Cuba:

  • The house churches are doing the best that they can and are leaning on God for strength.
  • How you can help: donate to the benevolent fund so our local leaders can quickly respond to urgent needs in their community!

Ecuador:

  • Even in the midst of this difficult season, we launched a new ministry initiative. Our discipleship development staff has begun a pilot program connecting with seven Ecuadorian pastors via Zoom to disciple them in multiplication principles and modeling how they can disciple leaders within their church and community. Things have been going well so far!

El Salvador:

Guatemala:

  • Deybee, the country director in Guatemala, leads 3 Zoom gatherings for the congregation (children's ministry, worship and communion, and community time). Those who attend appreciate it.
  • The great hardship in Guatemala is that the majority of the people are day laborers who rely on daily/weekly paychecks. Many people are hungry and the Lifeline churches in Guatemala are trying to figure out a way to help.

Honduras:

  • The clinic continues to see patients and meet needs in the community. (Check out this update from the clinic.)
  • The emotional toll is rising across the country. Our leaders noted that there is a significant increase in suicides. As this crisis drags on they expect much more of this type of problem. i.e. mental health, domestic violence, addictions, suicide, etc.
  • Lifeline's leaders have been distributing meals to families in need.
  • The field staff have also been discipling the school principals and asking them to do the same with their teachers.

Haiti:

  • COVID-19 cases are spiking.
  • President Moise has extended the State of Emergnecy for two additional months. This means extending the ban on international travel, schools and churches remain closed, and everyone is to wear masks in public. (Despite these challenges, field staff are still distributing food and homework!)
  • Please continue to pray for Lifeline's staff, leaders, and our brothers and sisters in Haiti.
  • How you can help: donate to the benevolent fund so our local leaders can quickly respond to urgent needs in their community!

Panama:

  • A container of meals recently arrived in Panama and the leaders there have been distributing food to families in need (see pictures here).
  • The Country Director in Panama, Jose, continues to utilize Zoom, Facebook, and Whatsapp to connect with potential church members in Panama City. (Jose has been in the process of planting a church in Panama City.)
  • How you can help: donate to the benevolent fund so our local leaders can quickly respond to urgent needs in their community!

Meal pack ministry:
We're encouraging groups and churches to schedule their meal pack events for summer and fall, as dates will start to fill up quickly!

  • Field leaders are desperate for food right now. A lot of families in the fields we serve live day to day and without work, families and communities are experiencing hunger right now.
  • By following COVID-19 protocols, you can safely bring your church together to pack meals at our ministry centres in Columbus or Denver, or pack at your location! Contact mealpack@lifeline.org for details!
  • How you can help: donate to help fund meals!

Mission Trip ministry:
  • Even though we can't send teams on the field right now, we have created a unique experience: a virtual mission trip. Now you can experience Haiti from your living room! You won't want to miss out on exclusive videos created by our Haitian staff, optional Zoom calls, daily devotions, and cultural insights! You can spend as much or as little time on this experience as you'd like. Start your journey! >>

Keep praying! We serve a God whom we know is in control of this situation!

You can make a difference today: Donate to the benevolent fund to enable field leaders to respond to urgent needs in their community!

And you can make a difference tomorrow: Donate a special gift or become a monthly donor to provide the fuel and energy for the long-term ministry!

We're all experiencing challenging times right now. And we're keeping our focus on Christ and trusting in God's provision. He's always carried the ministry through difficult times in the past, and we know God will do the same today!
