It's more than a gift

Brenda, our Volunteer Team Coordinator, oversaw the distribution of your gifts to your sponsored children in Honduras.  She shares that it's more than a gift...

I have been watching the faces of the children receiving sponsor Christmas gifts since 2001.  I am still moved by the excitement of finding their name on the posted gift list, the anticipation waiting for their name to be called to receive their gift, and the delight in their faces when they open that yellow bag and discover their treasures.

But I have come to realize it is more to the children than just a present: it is a message that says someone cares for them; that they themselves are a treasure to someone who took the time to pick a gift especially for them.

When the gift includes pictures, letters, or personal notes, it conveys to them a sense of belonging to something bigger than the world they know.  It brings them hope and joy.  This hope and joy, of course, is fleeting, as the gift does not last.  However, through your material gifts and prayers, these children have a better opportunity of finding the one true and lasting gift of Jesus and salvation.

Darwyn Sanchez, our Honduras School Administrator shares, "For many children, this may be the only gift they receive.  Other children feel a connection with somebody who is thinking of them.  Christmas gifts mean they are remembered, they are special and that God is with them."

Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give. You shouldn’t give if you don’t want to. You shouldn’t give because you are forced to. God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to shower all kinds of blessings on you. So in all things and at all times you will have everything you need. You will do more and more good works.
