Frequently Asked Questions

About Sponsorship

What is sponsorship?

Sponsorship is a unique relationship where you are linked with a child connected with Lifeline’s ministries. You personally get to know one child, but your impact is stretching to thousands of children around the world!

How do children become eligible for sponsorship? What benefits do they receive?

Children become eligible for sponsorship after entering one of Lifeline’s ministry programs in their community. After the children are enrolled, Lifeline seeks to find sponsors, who support the benefits that all children - both sponsored and not-yet-sponsored - receive in the program.

The benefits that the children receive are specific to the program in which they are enrolled. Some programs have stronger nutritional emphasis because of malnutrition, while other programs are more focused on school/education. The programs are unique to the needs of that community. Yet, no matter the program or community, Jesus’ love is always shared as we focus on the children’s spiritual, relational, health, nutritional, and educational growth.

All children in the program - both sponsored and not-yet-sponsored - receive the same benefits. Your donations are combined with the donations of all sponsors to provide resources to all the children connected with our ministries, regardless if they are sponsored or still waiting for a sponsor.

Why sponsor a child?

Your sponsorship is important because these programs are only available to the children due to your generosity! For many of these families, the basics, like daily meals and education, we take for granted are unavailable or difficult to obtain. Your donations are combined with the donations of all sponsors to provide resources to all the children connected with our ministries, regardless if they are sponsored or still waiting for a sponsor.

How long will my sponsorship last?

You can sponsor a child the entire time they are in Lifeline’s program, which varies by community. Some children can be sponsored through elementary school, middle school, and high school.

But it’s also important to note that the families we serve often live transient lives and they frequently move if a lease expires, better opportunities arise, or if family circumstances require relocation. If this happens to your sponsored child, then celebrate with God the impact that you have had and the seeds you have planted in the life of a child, their family, and their community!

What happens when my sponsored child leaves the program?

You are notified when we learn that your sponsored child has graduated or leaves the program. At that time you are given the option to sponsor a new child who is still waiting for a sponsor, donate to Lifeline’s ministries, or simply step away from your commitment.

Please note: Many times we are not given a reason why the child is no longer participating, as this is very cultural. The families we serve often live transient lives and they frequently move if a lease expires, better opportunities arise, or family circumstances require relocation. If this happens to you, then celebrate with God the impact that you have had and the seeds you have planted in the life of a child, their family, and their community!

How can I involve my church or business in the sponsorship program?

There are several ways you can involve your church and/or business in the sponsorship program:

1) Host a sponsorship drive at your church during your worship service. This is a special time to share the needs of the children and invite others to join you in making a difference in their lives.

2) Invite small groups, Sunday school groups, Bible study groups, and/or youth groups to collectively sponsor a child together.

3) Become a business/corporate sponsor. You’ll receive a special plaque with your sponsored child’s photo which you can display at your business.

How can I pray for my child?

We encourage you to pray daily for your child, and there are many things you can pray for on their behalf: their spiritual growth and relationship with Christ, their physical growth, their witness to their family and community, and their family - jobs, siblings, and health.

If you choose to communicate with your child via email, they can share more personal prayer requests with you.

Who can I contact if I have additional questions?

Please email us anytime at sponsor@lifeline.org or give us a call at 614-794-0108 Monday-Friday 9am-5pm (EDT).

Your Donations

How much is sponsorship?

Your sponsorship is $40 per month. It’s a considerable commitment, yet it makes an invaluable difference in a child’s life!

Does my sponsorship contribution go to my child?

Your monthly contributions are combined with the donations of all other sponsors to support the sponsorship program. This provides resources to all the children connected with our ministries, regardless if they are sponsored or still waiting for a sponsor. Your donations do not go into your child’s hands nor are they put on reserve for the child you are linked with. Sponsors are linked to a child so that they can get to know a specific child/family in a different culture, pray for their needs, and be an expression of God’s love to them.

How do I set up my account?

Setting up your account is a simple 3 step process, which enables you to access additional features as a sponsor: how to login & access your account.

How much of my donation directly supports the sponsorship program?

That’s a fair question in today’s world. All of us want our financial resources to honor God and to ensure that they are being used wisely.

To begin with, we believe in financial accountability and transparency. We are an ECFA member and we are audited annually. Our stewardship page gives you specific details on our audits and finances.

We strive to maximize the impact of your donation. The majority of your donation is used to directly support the programs for the children and the projects that your donations are designated for. For example, when you see a picture of a child learning in a classroom or involved with a Bible study, you know that child is there because of the donations you and other sponsors/donors have given. Your donation directly impacts the children!

Additionally, a small portion of your donation is used for our support ministries. Our support ministries simultaneously 1) deliver the programs to the children and 2) deliver accountability and opportunities to you, our sponsor/donor. For example, when sponsoring a child, you heard their story via video, saw a picture on a website, receive additional details via email and mail, and are given opportunities to connect more personally. We couldn’t share the children’s needs with you and others if it wasn’t for our support ministries.

We feel a strong responsibility to be efficient in all we do. We are honored that you trust your donations with us, and we always strive to steward that trust well. If you ever have questions, we are happy to discuss it with you. Our door is always open.

Build a relationship with your sponsored child

Visiting and communicating with your sponsored child are optional benefits that many sponsors enjoy, as they enable you to connect on a more personal level.

Can I visit my sponsored child?

A highlight for many sponsors is the time they personally spend visiting their child through a Lifeline mission trip! Visit lifeline.org/go to get started on your adventure.

Can I email my sponsored child?

On your sponsor dashboard, you’ll find instructions on how to send an email to your child through Lifeline’s staff. Your email, along with any additional scanned photos or cards, will be translated into your child’s language. You will receive a reply back via email. Please note that it may take a couple months to receive a response back due to rural and/or difficult-to-access communities.

Here are more details on how to login and access your account.

How often can I email my child?

You are welcome to send an email to your sponsored child up to 4 times a year.

What if my sponsored child wants to connect with me via social media?

As the children get older, they will have access to technology, just like your children. Although we encourage you to get to know your child, we also encourage healthy boundaries due to cultural differences.

By keeping communications through Lifeline, our staff help education the children/families on the cultural differences and appropriate boundaries, which is for your safety and theirs. Unfortunately, some children/families have tried to take advantage of a sponsor’s generosity.
