A Summer of Faith: 6 Baptisms Take Place in Guatemala

This summer in Guatemala, God has been moving in incredible ways through the faithful leadership of Pastor Deybee, Lifeline’s Guatemala Country Director. Under his guidance, churches are being strengthened, families are growing in faith, and people are choosing to follow Jesus by taking the step of baptism. These moments are more than outward expressions of faith, they are living evidence of the Great Commission at work. And it's the generosity of our Lifeline community that is making it possible!

At a two-day family retreat called Jesus is the Answer in San José Pinula, Pastor Deybee and his team created space for families to gather for prayer, devotionals, and fellowship. During a special Saturday morning prayer time, Doña Hermelinda and her daughter Mónica felt the Lord calling them to surrender their lives to Christ. Surrounded by encouragement from their church family, they accepted Jesus into their hearts and chose to be baptized together. That same day, two young people, Lesmy and Rodrigo, also responded to God’s invitation and entered the waters of baptism. The entire retreat celebrated with joy and worship.

Not long after, in Concepción Pinula, Pastor Deybee and local leaders spent nearly two weeks talking with community members about baptism. At first, no one seemed interested. However, as conversations continued, two women from the same church, Sindi and Brenda, began asking deeper questions. Each woman had been told that because she was not formally married, she could not fully commit her life to Jesus. That hurtful message left them feeling discouraged and shut out. Yet, in God’s perfect timing through Pastor Deybee’s encouragement and the prayers of their church family, they discovered the truth: baptism is not about having it all together, but about coming to Jesus just as you are.

On July 19, they committed their lives to Christ and were baptized. Their church family surrounded them with joy and welcomed them with open arms.

Lives Forever Changed
These six baptisms represent far more than individual decisions. They are powerful testimonies of God’s grace breaking down barriers and drawing people to Himself. Through them, families are being transformed, churches are being strengthened, and entire communities are witnessing the power of new life in Christ. This is the fruit of discipleship and the fulfillment of Jesus’ command in Matthew 28:19–20 to “go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them… and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you.”
