Stitching Together a Brighter Future

At 14 years old, Cristel is already learning skills that could shape her future.

She is an eighth-grade student in Honduras who helps her mother make and sell tortillas for their family business. Through Lifeline’s Economic sewing program in El Diamante, she is now learning a skill she believes could one day help her earn an income.

When Cristel first joined the workshop, she had never sewn before.

As the youngest participant, she felt insecure alongside women who were older and more experienced.

But little by little, she learned to use the sewing machine, cut fabric, and make patterns.

Then she made her own dress.

That experience helped Cristel discover something important: she was capable of doing something she had once been afraid to try.

And the impact has gone far beyond sewing!

Cristel has built relationships with the other women in the workshop and even begun helping others as her own skills have grown. Through the devotionals and intentional discipleship, she says she has also grown in her relationship with God.

Her family has been part of this journey, too. One cousin connected Cristel to the sewing workshop, while another participated in the computer workshop, creating different opportunities for members of the same family to learn and grow.

Cristel now sees sewing as a skill that could help her earn an income in the future.

Her biggest dream is to graduate, work, and help her mom.

This is what your partnership with Lifeline helps make possible!

A practical skill can create new opportunities. Confidence can grow. Relationships can form. Faith can deepen. And a young person can begin seeing new possibilities for her future.

Cristel’s story is one glimpse of the deeper transformation taking place in El Diamante as local leaders continue walking alongside families through practical opportunities, relationships, and discipleship.

Cristel shared: “Thank you so much because this is the first project in our neighborhood, and it’s a great opportunity for the women.”

You can help make more opportunities like this possible! Your gift equips local leaders to walk alongside young people like Cristel through practical skills.

Will you help create more opportunities for communities like El Diamante?
