Blue Paint + a Mission Team = Answered Prayer

When you go on a mission trip, you join the local church in blessing the community and people through acts of service. And when you let God use you, lives are sparked to live on mission for God!

A mission team recently met Doña Isabel who lives in a rural area of Guatemala called Concepción Pínula. What brought them together began with a prayer that Doña had lifted up to God over a year ago.

Here is Doña Isabel’s story in her own words:

For a year, I prayed for the Lord to give me the opportunity to paint my house because I wanted to give it a touch of joy.

I was working in a tortilleria, saving my income to buy paint. But when I had finally saved enough money, my husband damaged his work tool: his chainsaw. It was key to his job. I knew he desperately needed a chainsaw for work, so I decided to give him all of the money I had saved for the paint. 

I thought that was the end of my dream, that my house would never be painted.

Then, one day while praying, I remained silent and let God speak to me through His word. I read a wonderful verse in Matthew 21:22 where He promises, “If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask in prayer.”  

Shortly after, Pastor Bryan came to me. He said that the Lord put it on his heart to bless some families by painting their houses.

Soon, members of San José Pinula Christian Church and visiting missionaries came to paint my house! God had answered my prayer!

Just when I had lost hope of seeing my home full of color, God showed me that He never forgets what we ask of Him. He showed me that in His timing, He responds. 

I love my beautifully painted blue house!

Now, whenever I have the opportunity, I tell others what God did in my life and encourage them not to lose faith in waiting for God to answer prayers. 

In Guatemala, churches don't usually do such things for families. This church is different! Through their actions, they are demonstrating the good news and Jesus' love through caring for the needs of others.

God will use you in the lives of people like Doña Isabel when you go on a mission trip!
