God Revealed a Problem by Providing a Solution

Written by Brian Snyder, Arizona Mission Director

There is a real need for food and sanitation supplies on the Navajo reservation
, especially among the elderly. The spread of COVID-19 is still taking off among the Navajo as social distancing guidelines do not fit into their way of life. Their culture places a high priority on being with family. Families are gathering together, even during lockdowns to share company with one another. Many are then coming back into Winslow after the weekend bringing the virus into town.

The remote locations on the reservation have not been receiving any type of aid. Many people are trying to get items to the reservation, but chapter houses are closed, churches are closed, and there are no central locations for distribution.

There is a dwindling of supplies now that the country is trying to reopen, but the reservation is still fighting the virus and more supplies are needed each day.

Some organizations are trying to systematically get items to those on the reservation, but struggle to find names, real addresses, and vehicles to deliver goods. We are relying on employees and those we trust to take items to the reservation for us because they know the people who need it most.

We received a call from Steve Thompson at Spur Ministries in Show Low, AZ about receiving supplies to help those being impacted by the pandemic as well as becoming a distributor of supplies in our area.

God provided a solution before we even knew how big of a problem there was. Steve's phone call sparked a series of miraculous acts of God's provision.

I shared with Steve that we needed hand sanitizer, but most importantly, masks.

We began receiving tons of handmade masks in the mail as the word began to spread.

We distributed masks to the locals and to the reservation as quickly as we could. A few days later, we received a call from Jeff Cline at American Indian Christian Mission (AICM) asking if we could use some supplies coming in from Midwest Mission Distribution Center in Pawnee, IL. We received thousands of masks, hand sanitizer bottles, cleaning supplies, hygiene supplies, food, and more.

These supplies were delivered by Steve Thompson and we began to distribute the goods. Many items went onto the reservation and more items went to the local hospital, medical clinics, abuse shelters, and Indian Healthcare Services (IHS).

Another load came last week on Wednesday bringing even more supplies
, including hundreds of hand made masks. Alice RunningHawk, a Lifeline Christian Mission employee at Red Sands Christian School, delivered several boxes of items to Hard Rock on the Reservation. They told her that this was the first help they received in their area and were incredibly grateful. More items have been taken up since then.

But God wasn't done there. Shortly after we began running out of supplies, I received a call from CM Habermehl at Compass Christian Church asking if we could use a truck of fruit and vegetables. I was thinking box truck or pickup truck, but he was thinking another semi truck full of 1,820 boxes of vegetables and fruit!

We couldn't believe this was happening, because we just heard that people in remote areas of the reservation are getting absolutely nothing from the aid that is being distributed. So, we jumped at this and said yes! What amazing generosity for Compass to send all of this. Truly a blessing for those in need.

After seeing the enormous amount of food, we began to doubt that we could get this much distributed to those in need. But God wasn't done yet.
I received a call from Angel Flight West and they shared how they are helping with the food shortage. They offer their pilots and services to get food to remote areas on the reservation.

It has been a great blessing to see God's faithful hand providing abundantly more than all we could ask or imagine.
