Selfless Service

Ocotillo Christian School students, with Principal Karen Reyes (in yellow), are learning to practice selflessness

Written by Ebelina Arteaga, teacher at Ocotillo Christian School

What does it mean to be selfless?
It’s about helping others without expecting anything in return. And teaching our students to be selfless is a core value of Lifeline’s schools in Honduras.

For students and staff at Ocotillo Christian School, helping other schools is becoming a tradition.

In 2022, we learned that Gabriela Mistral Public School in La Lima, Honduras, suffered severe damage from rains and hurricanes the previous year. So our staff and students stepped up to help paint several classrooms at that school.

For this service project, our 12th graders were joined by a group of young people from Ohio who were on a mission trip led by Joel Augustus, Lifeline’s executive vice president.

It was a time of good fellowship and teamwork. The principal thanked God, the North American missionaries, and the Lifeline students for coming to help the school.

"Our goals are to build a community connection, strengthen the bonds between us, and proclaim the Gospel through activities that benefit the students and teachers of Aurora Mendez de Dubon School," said Karen Reyes, Ocotillo Christian School principal.

In the future, we plan to have VBS at the public school. Upper grades of our school will lead the lessons for the younger public school children.

It is unusual to be able to teach biblical principles in Honduran public schools. This will be a very good opportunity to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to others.

Please pray for these projects as we wish for them to be a blessing through acts of selflessness.
