Zacchaeus in the Tree

Many of Lifeline's field staff were Lifeline students or grew up in a Lifeline church. This is true of Linda, our clinic coordinator in Honduras, who was impacted by Lifeline's ministries.

“I met the Lord when I was a little girl in Sunday school at Gonzales Christian Church,” Linda recalled. Her father taught her how to pray. He encouraged Linda to entrust her life and dreams to God.

As a Lifeline student, her faith gained strength as she read more of the Bible. Being baptized was a memorable day for her!

After graduation, Linda applied for a job at Lifeline because of its impact on her life. She interviewed well and was hired!

She has worked as a Lifeline school secretary and in the clinic pharmacy. Today, Linda is Lifeline’s clinic coordinator!

“Working for Lifeline is more than just a job,” she said. “My supervisors have taught me the importance of demonstrating biblical values through my work: honesty, integrity, accountability, and going the extra mile for the ministry.”

Her coworkers call her Sister Linda. The bond she has with them is unique, she says. She believes that other workplaces do not have a culture of such trust and unity.

The mentoring and discipleship she has received from other Lifeline staff has helped bolster her faith. Through them, she has seen what dependence on the Lord looks like.

Although the details are private, Linda shared, “My life has not been easy. I can just say that if I had not gone through everything I have experienced, I think I would be aimless, perhaps lost. God taught me to stay close to Him in bad times and to let Him be my anchor. He taught me to fight for what is important to me.”

Seeing God through the hard times was not always easy. But for Linda, it was essential. It’s something she fought hard for.

“My favorite Bible story is about Zacchaeus,” Linda said. "Zacchaeus was small, and he often got lost in crowds and was easily overlooked. When Jesus came to town, Zacchaeus climbed up a tree in order to see Him! That’s how badly he wanted to see Jesus and receive Jesus’s forgiveness. Upon seeing Zacchaeus’s faith, Jesus told him that salvation had come to Zacchaeus's house.”

Linda sees herself in Zacchaeus. She can relate to his urgent need to see Jesus.

“No matter how difficult my life has been, I have managed to ‘climb the tree’ to see Jesus,” she said.

Summing up her faith journey thus far, Linda said, “God is a transformer of hearts. He tends to even the smallest details of our lives to help us understand our purpose. He did that for me.”

She and her husband Alexis have a little girl named Faith. How fitting!
