Panama

Panama at a Glance

Located at the southern tip of Central America, Panama is the country that connects North and South America. The Panama Canal, stretching for 81 kilometers across the middle of the country, connects the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. This is a country with all kinds of important connections! Although the canal was begun by France in 1881, the U.S. took over the construction when it was abandoned by the French; and, it was finished in 1914…an incredible engineering feat! Due to the fact that the U.S. controlled the area around the canal until 1999, there has been a huge U.S. influence in the country for the past century. Now, not only does Panama manage the original canal, but they have built a second one to accommodate larger ships.  Over the years Panama has also become a major financial centre and boasts the most stable economy in Central America.

Lifeline in Panama

In 2012, ministry in Panama began with outreach to an indigenous tribe. With an understanding of the culture and a vision to impact more people with Christ's love, local leadership stepped in to grow the work begun with this outreach work. Today, the ministry in Panama has a dual focus. In Panama City, a new church plant is set amidst the bustling metropolis. And then up in the mountains of Western Panama, there is a ministry with the indigenous people of Panama.
